SIMPLE BY DEFAULT • ENGINEERED UNDER THE HOOD

One-Click Simplicity Meets Modern Hardware Precision

Most Windows disc utilities haven't been updated in over a decade. IgnisDisc replaces dated shareware with a fast, intuitive workflow for everyday burning—while handling the low-level optical hardware details automatically behind the scenes.

Legacy Disc Utilities (2005–2015 Era)
  • ❌ Failed Burns on Modern Media: Defaults to legacy 1x–4x write speeds that can stall or fail calibration on modern high-speed CD-R/RW and DVD dye.
  • ❌ Drives Left Spinning After Exit: Cancels or closes without sending a hardware stop command, leaving USB and SATA drives whirring at high RPM.
  • ❌ Inaccurate Audio Timing: Guesses track duration from compressed file size instead of decoding exact presentation timestamps.
  • ❌ Cryptic Error Codes: Fails with raw hex HRESULTs on DRM-protected tracks (.m4p) or finalized rewritable discs instead of explaining what to do.
  • ❌ Dated UI & Bundled Adware: Blurry unscaled Win32 dialogs, cluttered menus, no dark mode, and ad-wrapped installers.
IgnisDisc Optical Studio (v1.08)
  • ✅ Automatic Optimal Speed Selection: Selects your physical burner automatically and negotiates optimal hardware write speeds out of the box.
  • ✅ Clean Hardware Spin-Down (0x1B): Issues an MMC-5 START_STOP_UNIT command via SCSI pass-through on cancel or exit so your drive stops quietly.
  • ✅ Sample-Accurate Audio & Secure Rip: Decodes WAV, FLAC, MP3, and M4A via Media Foundation, and rips audio CDs with C2 error recovery and AccurateRip verification.
  • ✅ Clear, Actionable Guidance: Detects finalized CD-RW discs, overwrite-only DVD+RW media, and FairPlay .m4p DRM upfront with plain-English prompts.
  • ✅ Modern Windows 11 Fluent Studio: Crisp PerMonitorV2 scaling, instant Dark/Light theme switching, and a single-click self-contained installer or portable ZIP.
FULL SPECIFICATION COVERAGE

Production-Grade Optical Engineering

Built on a strict separation between domain filesystem engines (CdBurner.Core) and low-level COM/Win32 SCSI hardware transport (CdBurner.Hardware).

💿

ISO 9660 + Joliet + UDF 1.02 Bridge

Simultaneous or selective authoring across ISO 9660, Unicode UCS-2BE Joliet (64-char identifiers), and OSTA UDF 1.02 Bridge with Anchor Volume Descriptor Pointers at LBA 256, plus multi-session Joliet merging.

🎵

Red Book Audio & CD-Text

Gapless Disc-at-Once (DAO) and Track-at-Once (TAO) mastering, peak normalization DSP, and a CDRWIN .cue parser/generator. Lead-in CD-Text is authored on the virtual drive (IMAPIv2 cannot write it to physical discs).

🚀

Dual BIOS & UEFI El Torito

Author hybrid bootable recovery and OS installation media combining legacy x86 BIOS boot sectors and 64-bit UEFI System Partitions in a single El Torito Boot Catalog.

🎬

DVD-Video 32 KB ECC Alignment

Canonical VIDEO_TS layout engine enforcing strict 16-sector (32 KB) Error Correction Code physical separation between .IFO and .BUP tables plus DVD-9 dual-layer break calculation.

🛡️

Secure Audio Ripping & AccurateRip

Rip audio CDs to .wav / .flac + .cue with C2 error pointers and re-reads, automatic drive read-offset detection, AccurateRip verification, and MusicBrainz track names. Data discs rip to .iso / .bin + .cue.

🧪

Archive Studio (Multi-Disc Spanning)

Span large folders across CD, DVD or DVD-DL sets with a SHA-256 manifest on every disc, optional PAR2 recovery data, and one-click verify and repair of the finished archive.

🧪

Virtual SCSI Optical Simulator

Thread-safe, in-memory MMC-5 optical drive simulator (VirtualDiscBackend) supporting runtime bad-sector injection, speed curve modeling, and 100% hardware-free CI/CD testing.

SYSTEMS ARCHITECTURE CASE STUDY • AI-AUGMENTED EXECUTION

Architecting a Full Hardware-Integrated Optical Suite in Record Time

IgnisDisc was designed as an open-source systems engineering showcase: delivering a zero-friction Windows 10/11 application for everyday users while demonstrating how far AI-augmented systems engineering can go when anchored by strict hardware abstractions, real physical media validation, and deterministic simulation.

01

AI-Augmented Systems Velocity

Traditional teams estimate 6–9 months to ship a native desktop + CLI suite that speaks raw Win32 DeviceIoControl, IMAPIv2 COM sinks, ISO/UDF binary layouts, and custom single-file installers. By pairing deep systems architecture constraints with disciplined autonomous agent workflows, this entire 24-phase architecture—core engine, hardware layer, WPF studio, headless CLI, and setup wizard—was shipped and hardened at 10x velocity.

02

Build the Simulator First (VirtualDiscBackend)

You cannot iterate at AI speed if testing requires burning physical plastic coasters at 16x. Before wiring the UI, I architected a deterministic, in-memory SCSI/IMAPIv2 hardware abstraction layer. All 481 unit and integration tests execute end-to-end data burns, audio mastering, El Torito boot catalogs, and bad-sector recovery against virtual media in about 6 seconds.

03

Unforgiving Last-Mile Hardware Polish

Real FDE work happens where clean abstractions meet messy physical reality: marshaling blocking imapi2.dll write operations onto dedicated background ApartmentState.MTA threads, streaming telemetry over bounded System.Threading.Channels, deterministically releasing COM references in finally blocks, and dropping down to raw SCSI 0x1B CDBs when Windows leaves a physical spindle running.
